Why do we need bleeding kits
The number one reason a person can die faster from, is from loss of blood.
- Severe blood loss can lead to death within minutes
- Rapid blood loss causes hypovolemic shock
- Brain cells begin dying within minutes without oxygen
These factors combined make severe blood loss a critical emergency that requires immediate action for survival. But for that action you need a bleeding control kit within minutes from the incident.
Why do we need bleeding kits if we already have first aid kits?
Our solution to stop the bleed onboard
We offer a very affordable bleeding control kit from Rhino Medical, tailored to non medical professionals such as seafarers. It includes:
- 1 x Soluble Hemostatic Gauge
- 2 x Compressed Gauges
- 1 x Tourniquet
- 1 x Small Israeli bandage
- 1 x Pair of Gloves
- 1 x Emergency Blanket
- 1 x Atraumatic scissors
- 1 x Bleeding Control Quick Guide
How to use a bleeding kit onboard?
Based on our experience, we would suggest the following minimum number of bleeding kits onboard.
Vessels up to 100 meters - 3 kits
Vessels 100-200 meters - 4 kits
Vessels 200+ meters - 5 kits
A bleeding kit should be in place within 1 minute of an incident. In that aspect, we would advise to place the bleeding kits in the bridge, engine room office, bosun store, hospital and forecastle.
You may opt in for our automatic renewal of the bleeding kits upon expiration of their contents.
We also offer specialised training through our partners on managing blood loss from members of EMAK in Athens.
